Julie Weitz

Julie Weitz is an award-winning interdisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles. Working across film, performance, installation, and photography, she synthesizes elements from Yiddish folktales, Jewish ritual, clowning, drag, and silent film to make powerful, and often political statements about the world and humanity’s survival.

Her work has been featured in Artforum, Art in America, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, BOMB, and Hyperallergic. Weitz’s recent solo exhibition GOLEM: A Call to Action debuted at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, CA. Her work has also been exhibited at the Torrance Museum of Art (Torrance, CA), Lambert Center for the Arts (NYC, NY), Jewish Museum of Maryland (Baltimore, MD), and Judisches Museum (Augsburg, Germany). Weitz teaches in Los Angeles and regularly writes for Contemporary Art Review Los Angeles.
